National Art Honor Society

In 1978, the National Art Education Association began the NAHS program to inspire and recognize students who have shown an outstanding ability and interest in art. The program supports members in their efforts to attain the highest standards in art scholarship, character, and service and to bring art education to the attention of the school and community.

The NAHS program at Booker T. Washington has partnered with many businesses and Dallas museums to paint murals, participate in art festivals, and exhibit artworks. Members are expected to attend occasional meetings and contribute 10 hours of community service per semester.

Sophomores, juniors, and seniors in the visual art program may apply. Limited spots are available, and members are selected by the school’s art faculty. The selection committee considers the character, work ethic, and commitment to art demonstrated by each applicant. Students may improve their applications through participation in campus exhibits, volunteering, and school leadership.

Students must complete an application (link available early October) and upload a copy of cycle 1 grades by October 19. Late applications will not be considered. Any questions should be directed to the campus sponsor, Krystal Read, at krread@dallasisd.org.
