AUGUSTUS OWEN SALON SERIES - SEPTEMBER 18

Visual Arts students and their parents/guardians are invited to a free artist talk with LA-based artist Umar Ashid on Thursday, September 18 in the Black Box. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the artist talk begins at 6:30 p.m. 

Students can receive crew hours for attending, and if students need to stay after school for the event, pizza will be provided. Please RSVP to reserve your seat and help plan refreshments.

NORTH TEXAS GIVING DAY - SEPTEMBER 18

Make a donation to the Visual Arts Guild on Thursday, September 18 and all donations go directly to programs and resources for our faculty and students. Donate online at www.northtexasgivingday.org/organization/Btw-Visual-Arts-Guild.

FACULTY ART SHOW - SEPTEMBER 25

The faculty art show is currently in the Hudson Gallery. The closing reception is Thursday, September 25 from 5-7 p.m. All our exhibits and receptions are free to attend and open to the public. Volunteers are needed to help set up, restock refreshments, and clean up after the event. We will also be selling new guild merchandise. Students can volunteer with parents.

NATIONAL PORTFOLIO DAY - SEPTEMBER 28

Annual National Portfolio Day in Dallas is from 12-4 p.m. on Sunday, September 28 at SMU’s Meadows School of the Arts. Students can visit with counselors, admissions team members, and faculty from art and design schools for a portfolio review before applying to colleges or universities. Registration is recommended. YOUNG ARTS - OCTOBER 8

Young Arts is a nationwide arts competition for artists ages 15–18 (or grades 10–12). Students are encouraged to apply in the discipline of their choice - classical music, dance, design, film, jazz, photography, theater, visual arts, voice or writing. Award winners receive mentorship and financial awards, and gain access to creative, professional development and funding opportunities. Get more information and apply online before October 8

ARTWALK - OCTOBER 25

ArtWalk | West is a neighborhood-wide event that showcases the artists, galleries, and makers in West Dallas. Students are encouraged to volunteer in different capacities throughout the day. Sign up on the website at https://www.artwalkwest.com/ for more details. 

NASHER FIELD TRIP - OCTOBER 30

Four volunteers are needed to chaperone students on a field trip to the Nasher from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Sign up on the Visual Arts Guild website. Please remember that all volunteers must register or renew with VOLY annually.

SAIC DAY - NOVEMBER 1

The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) is hosting an SAIC Day in Dallas on Saturday, November 1 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Urban Arts Center (919 Morrell Avenue, Dallas, 75203). The event includes a presentation about SAIC’s curriculum, resources and admission requirements, and the opportunity to discuss student work with admission counselors and SAIC faculty. Students are encouraged to bring a portfolio of original or documented artwork, sketchbooks, zines or digital media. Registration is required. TEXAS YOUNG MASTERS - NOVEMBER 3

Texas Young Masters is a grant program open to 8th to 11th grade students who are legal US and Texas residents. The program awards grants to young artists to further their studies in their chosen field. This grant is not a college scholarship. The most talented young artists will receive the title of Young Master and will be awarded grants of $5,000 per year to further their studies in their chosen arts disciplines.
