Good afternoon Visual Arts parents, students and supporters! Read on for a few reminders and updates.

Today was the second day of auditions for the 2024-25 school year. Thank you to all the student volunteers and families who donated snacks and drinks. The refreshments were appreciated during the long audition process. Special thanks to Marie-Louise Van Hummel, Gina Pavon, Beth Rainey, Violet Rainey-Ellis, Kay Wood and Christy Black for setting up and manning our hospitality table.

The PTSA meets on Tuesday, February 13 at 6 p.m. in the Commons. The Visual Arts Guild will not have a February meeting.

Check the Visual Arts Guild website and the board outside the first floor art rooms for the latest contests and opportunities. Just added:

Arts Fort Worth invites all artists to submit artwork for its March exhibit. Artists of all ages can submit one work between February 22-24. See the Arts Fort Worth website for details.

DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS) also has an opportunity for two Booker T students to design jackets for its annual House of DIFFA auction. Selected students will receive a generous stipend and will work with a fashion mentor to create a piece for the runway show in April. If you want more details, email by Monday, February 5.

Students can win a $250 gift card with a design or video entry for the North Texas Tollway that advocates driving safety. The deadline is March 7.

The deadline to submit artwork for Young American Talent is March 1. See the guild website for details on YAT. DISD students can waive the application fee for up to three pieces with the code DISD2024.

The Visual Arts Senior Dinner will be Tuesday, May 21 in the Hudson Gallery (time TBD). We are looking for 6-8 underclassmen parents and guardians to help plan and host the dinner. Email if you are interested.
