Support faculty member Jessica Bell on Saturday, August 19 - Visual Arts faculty member Jessica Bell is participating in the Lyte as a Rock Hip Hop at 50 - The Intersection of Art, Culture, Technology and Community exhibit from August 19-September 23. The public grand opening is this Saturday, August 19 from 7-10 p.m. at 2720 Bataan Street. All are welcome to join us at 6 p.m. at White Rock Brewing Company (2477 N. Beckley Avenue) before heading to the gallery around 7 p.m. In lieu of an RSVP, say you are a special guest of Jessica Bell!

Senior headshots makeups - Tuesday, August 22 is the LAST DAY for senior headshots. Students can schedule and prepay online or pay in person with cash, check or card.

Join before August 25 - Everyone who joins the guild and the PTSA before August 25 is eligible for the Pegasus prize raffle. The winner will be announced at the August 29 PTSA meeting.

Senior parent meeting recap - If you weren't able to attend in person, you can download the agenda and notes from this week's senior parent meeting.

First guild meeting - Our first meeting will follow the PTSA on Tuesday, August 29. PTSA meets at 6 p.m. in the Commons. Visual Arts Guild follows at 7 p.m. Our meeting will be brief, but we hope you'll join us!

Studio Selections exhibit and reception - Studio Selections will run from September 5-29. The opening reception on Friday, September 8 from 5-7 p.m. is free and open to the public so invite your friends and family. We'll also need volunteers to help set up, serve, host and clean up

Bookmark the online call board - Students can find artist calls, competitions, programs and classes on the student opportunities page of the guild website.

Support the guild when you shop at Kroger or Tom Thumb - Go to Kroger Community Rewards and search for Booker T. Washington Visual Arts Guild or organization number UU171 and enroll. For Tom Thumb, set up a Tom Thumb for U account on the app or website. Email good.neighbor@TomThumb.com to link your account. You will need your phone number and the Tom Thumb for U number provided in your registration email.

Join a committee - Are you a freshman or sophomore parent who would like to get involved but don't want a big time commitment? We are looking for 9th or 10th grade parents who would be interested in shadowing our Portfolio Day chair or Senior Showcase chair. Both these volunteers are senior parents so we need to plan for next year when they've graduated! Email btwvisualarts@gmail.com if you are interested.

Faculty wish listThe faculty wish list for 2023-24 has been updated. Check out the Amazon wish list where you can shop and ship directly to the school. Did you know the faculty is always on the lookout for dry cleaner bags, cleaning supplies, wood blocks, mason jars, old tupperware, assorted yarn, wooden rolling pins, screws and nails of any size, hand sanitizer and tissues!

Hairspray opportunity - Visual Arts students have an opportunity to support this year's all-school musical. We've been invited to decorate the MAT lobby to support the theme and aesthetic of the show Hairspray. We are finalizing the details (scope, time commitment, schedule) but if you are interested, please email btwvisualarts@gmail.com. Parents and students are welcome!

Apply for the DMA Teen Advisory Council - The Dallas Museum of Art is taking applications for its Teen Advisory Council (TAC). The TAC is a group of dynamic high-school–age leaders who shape the direction of how the Museum engages teens and youth audiences. TAC members receive a stipend, free parking, and free admission to special exhibitions. Check the DMA website for responsibilities, application details, and details about pay and perks. Applications are due September 1.

Visual Arts Winter Market - Want to participate in the Winter Market? Mark your calendar for December 13-15. Student vendors can create and sell handmade goods and make some cash to do some shopping of your own! We will have a raffle, limited edition merch and so much more! Stay tuned for details!

Participate in North Texas Giving Day - Students, we need your testimonials and quotes! Early giving starts September 1. North Texas Giving Day is September 21. We'd love to hear from 20 of you. Your testimonial can be anonymous. Our supporters want to hear from you!
