Hello Visual Arts Guild!

We hope you are enjoying summer break.

If you have one minute, check out this quick list of news and updates. If you have five minutes, read the full newsletter below.

UPDATES

Enrollment for all new and returning students is now open. Visit the DISD website and click 'enroll now' to begin the process. It is helpful to have this online registration completed before Pegasus Pick Up. If you are registering for the first time you will need to create an account. You will need your student's ID number. As part of the registration you will need to upload your proof of identification and proof of residency, and your student's immunization record. Direct general enrollment questions to 972 925 5560.

Dates for Pegasus Pick Up (PPU) have changed since the last newsletter. Freshmen are now Monday, July 31. Sophomores and juniors are Tuesday, August 1 and seniors are Wednesday, August 2.

Incoming students still have Flight School on Friday, August 4. This is a chance for students to spend a day at the school, learn their schedule, and hear from current BTW students and faculty.

We will send info on both PPU and Flight School as we receive it.

If you are interested in volunteering during PPU, check out the sign up. Volunteers will man the Visual Arts Guild table, sell merchandise, help families join the guild, and answer questions. Parents and students are welcome to volunteer!

PROGRAMS

The YoungArts 2024 application is now open. If you aren't familiar with YoungArts, it is one of the only organizations in the U.S. that supports artists across 10 disciplines at all stages of development. Artists ages 15–18, or grades 10–12, in the U.S. are encouraged to apply in the discipline of their choice. All applications are judged by esteemed discipline-specific panels of artists through a rigorous blind adjudication process, and award winners are offered a lifetime of artistic support and ongoing connection with an extraordinarily robust network of peers and mentors.

BTW had several finalists in the 2023 competition, and two of the finalists went on to be named U.S. Presidential Scholars in the Arts.

Visit the YoungArts website for details.

The Smart Project, created by BTW alum Nitashia Johnson, is hosting FREE summer workshops in digital media and photography. Registration deadline is June 25. Camps run Saturdays from July 1-29. A limited number of DART passes are available. Visit The Smart Project website for details.

The Dallas Museum of Art is offering $15 all-access passes this summer. Visit dma.org/visit/day-pass for details.

The Meadows Museum at SMU is currently looking for volunteers to serve as docents. The museum provides art history and gallery teaching training. Spanish language ability is helpful, but not a requirement.

Applications are due July 31. Visit the website for complete details or to register for an informational Zoom session on July 10 at 11 a.m.

CLASS OF 2027

And let us know if you have any questions you'd like us to address.

CLASS OF 2024
