Good afternoon Visual Arts parents, students and supporters!

December brings a few busy weeks for BTW and the Visual Arts Conservatory. In the next couple of months we will have the Visual Arts Winter Market, Booker T Angels, auditions, and the 5x7 Art Sale in January 2024. Please consider volunteering for one of these events. We know time is valuable and appreciate all our volunteers and supporters.

Congratulations to Visual Arts senior John Sanchez! John was one of six Booker T students named a YoungArts winner. Alexis Muturi (senior, music/theatre), Sebastian Payan (senior, music), Toby Whitley (senior, music), Macie Krause (junior, dance) and Briyana Wyche (senior, dance) were also winners.

All YoungArts award winners receive cash prizes, a medallion, a lifetime of creative and professional support, and access to a private, online portal for YoungArts artists to connect, share their work and discover new opportunities.

Congratulations to all the winners and the faculty and families who have supported their artistic journey. Read more about the program to see how to participate next year, and check out the list of winners at

Young American Talent (YAT) is now open for submissions. YAT is a juried art competition for North Texas high school students. Last year there were more than 1,300 submissions and 150 were selected for the exhibit, which the Visual Arts Guild hosts. Students can submit art through March 1, 2024. Visual Arts parent Kay Wood chairs the YAT committee. Email Kay if you want to help on the committee in any capacity.

The National Art Honor Society exhibit runs from December 4 - January 12. The reception is Thursday, December 7 from 5-7 p.m. in the Hudson Gallery.

Come for the reception and stay for Shredstock, the guitar show hosted by the Music Conservatory at 7 p.m. Shredstock features classical, jazz, country and hip hop performances.

All are invited to the Visual Arts Guild meeting on Tuesday, December 12. We'll have news and updates and wrap our Booker T Angel gifts. We'll also have some holiday treats and surprises. The PTSA meets at 6 p.m. in the Commons. We'll meet at 7 p.m.

Thank you to everyone who purchased items for our Booker T Angels family. We have cleared their Amazon Wishlist! If you would like to purchase a gift card for the family, check out the website for details.

We will also need a few volunteers on December 18 to load gifts at BTW, unload gifts at, set up the rooms for the holiday parties at HI Holland, and host the families. All supplies will be provided and there will also be BTW Student Council volunteers on site. Parents and students can volunteer together.

Support our students by shopping the Visual Arts Winter Market on December 13-15. Students will be throughout the zero floor and Green Room from 12:40-1:30 p.m. Shop for holiday gifts, join the raffle, and get limited edition merch! Also on Friday, December 15 - the STRUT show featuring students from all conservatories. Get tickets and merch and don't miss the show at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Students will take ACPs Tuesday, December 19 - Friday, December 22. These will also be early release days. Look for the release schedule soon.

We're looking for artists and alums who are interested in donating 1-2 pieces of art for our 5x7 Art Sale. All are invited to the event on Thursday, January 18. The free event will include light bites and entertainment. Look for more details soon! And if you are interested in helping the event committee in any capacity, please email
