Hello Visual Arts Guild!

Congratulations Pegasi - you made it through Pegasus Pick Up! The guild thanks you for your excitement and support. It's going to be a great school year!

Read on for some important news and reminders for the upcoming week.

FLIGHT SCHOOL - FRIDAY, AUGUST 4

Flight School is Friday, August 4. Incoming students will be on campus from 8:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. A pizza lunch will be provided to the students.

PARENT UNIVERSITY - FRIDAY, AUGUST 4

A food truck will be on campus at 11:15 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. You can pre-order lunch or purchase on site. The Senior Activities Committee will also be selling sweet treats for $2 (cash only).

From 12:25-1:15 p.m. all attendees will be in the MAT with PTSA leadership, school administrators, our PR specialist, student success coordinator, counselors, conservatory directors, guild presidents, and representatives from the Booker T Advisory Board.

From 1:20-2 p.m. attendees will join class break-out sessions

  • Seniors in the Black Box Theatre led by 2024 Class Chair Rachel Winton with Principal Williams and Counselor Scott Sunde
  • Juniors in the band hall (room 273) led by VP of Membership Karmin Lane with administration and counselors
  • Sophomores in the orchestra room (209) led by 2025 Class Chair Amy Marcuis, assisted by Secretary Rhonda Thompson with administration and counselors
  • Freshmen in the MAT led by 2027 Freshman Parent Sandy Duhe, assisted by VP of Community and Programs Aaron Moore with administration and School Psychologist Jennifer Toombs
FACULTY BREAKFAST - AUGUST 7

Each guild is providing the faculty breakfast next week. We're up on Monday. Parents and students are welcome to sign up to donate items or funds or volunteer at the event. We'll be in the BTW Commons from 7-9 a.m.

FRESHMAN FYI - AUGUST 8

The Visual Arts Guild is hosting a virtual informational session on Tuesday, August 8 at 6 p.m. It's called Freshman FYI but all are welcome to join. We'll have a panel of current and former parents and students to provide their perspectives and advice and answer any questions you might have. Register online and join us Tuesday!

LAPTOP DISTRIBUTION - AUGUST 7-10

During the week of August 7, students will have an opportunity to receive their laptop for the 2023-2024 school year. Please plan to attend your pickup time, as follows:

  • SENIORS: Monday, August 7, 2023 (Last Name A - M: 8:30-11:30 a.m. Last Name N - Z: 1:30-4:30 p.m.)
  • JUNIORS: Tuesday, August 8, 2023 (Last Name A - M: 8:30-11:30 a.m. Last Name N - Z: 1:30-4:30 p.m.)  
  • SOPHOMORES: Wednesday, August 9, 2023 (Last Name A - M: 8:30-11:30 a.m. Last Name N - Z: 1:30-4:30 p.m.) 
  • FRESHMEN: Thursday, August 10, 2023 (Last Name A - M: 8:30-11:30 a.m. Last Name N - Z: 1:30-4:30 p.m.) 

Sign the Contract Agreement
Parents MUST sign the laptop contract agreement and bring the signed copy to the designated laptop pickup time. The contract is available in English and Spanish. (It can be downloaded from the “Student Laptop Distribution Information” drive, on the school website home page under Campus Announcements.)

Return Equipment
IMPORTANT - If your student attended another Dallas ISD school last year and was given a Chromebook, Dell, iPad, and/or a Hot Spot, it must be returned (with CHARGER) when your student picks up the new laptop at Booker T. Please tape a piece of paper to the Chromebook with the student’s name and the Dallas ISD school that issued the device.

Want to help?
Parents and students are encouraged to volunteer to help with laptop distribution August 7-10. Morning and afternoon shifts are available. Make sure you are updated with VOLY and sign up today!

SENIOR HEADSHOTS INFO AND MAKEUPS

Seniors - if you weren't able to get your headshot during Pegasus Pick Up on August 2, you can schedule a makeup on Tuesday, August 22. You can prepay the $15 or pay in person with cash, check or card.

THANK YOU to Nicki Behm Photography for the session on August 2! After the August 22 makeups, she will provide an online gallery where the student can choose the photo for the senior wall and purchase additional photographs. Each student will get ONE digital photograph as part of the $15 fee. Nicki specializes in senior photos so if you are looking for a photographer, visit the website for her gallery and additional information.

STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES

Students - bookmark the online Call Board for information on artist calls, competitions, programs and classes you might be interested in. 

Former Visual Arts Conservatory student Kenley Turner of Ghostgirl Studio is teaching a class on digital sticker making at Oil and Cotton. Students can create work or convert previously existing work onto a digital platform. Early bird registration ends August 6. The class is August 20 from 1-4 p.m. at Oil and Cotton (2313 Beatrice Street #100, Dallas, TX 75208). Get details and sign up on the Oil and Cotton website.

FACULTY WISH LIST

The faculty wish list for 2023-24 has been updated. Check out the Amazon wish list where you can shop and ship directly to the school. Did you know the faculty is also always on the lookout for dry cleaner bags, cleaning supplies, wood blocks, mason jars, old tupperware, assorted yarn, wooden rolling pins, screws and nails of any size, hand sanitizer and tissues!
